Curling

▶ Play

Curling brings the ice sport of sliding stones to a foldable phone. A match has three ends, with four stones each. The stone closest to the centre of the house scores. You release the stone with a fold and open, then sweep in front of it with more folds and opens.

How to play

  1. Tap a spot in the house: the skip's broom goes there and becomes the stone's target.
  2. Choose the curl direction (which way the stone spins) at the bottom.
  3. Fold the phone and open it quickly: the stone is released. The more you fold, the faster it goes.
  4. While the stone is moving, fold and open repeatedly: that is sweeping. A swept stone travels further and straighter.

Tips

How is the score counted?

At the end of each end, the side with the stone closest to the centre scores one point for every stone that is closer than the opponent's closest stone. The total of three ends decides the match. As in real curling, sweeping reduces the ice's friction and also straightens the stone's curl a little.

What do you need?

Katla games run in the browser; there is nothing to download or install. The games read the phone's fold angle from its motion sensor, so they play best on foldable phones such as the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip. On a phone that doesn't fold you can tilt the phone with your wrist instead of moving the top half, and most games can also be played by tapping the screen. Motion sensors only work over a secure connection (https).
